“What’s with the frown?” Dee asked, perching on the corner of Ryo’s desk. Forehead furrowed, clearly deep in thought, his partner was staring into space and chewing on his bottom lip. When there was no response, Dee tapped him on the shoulder; Ryo almost jumped out of his skin.
“Ack!”
“Sorry, thought ya knew I was here.”
“No, it’s fine, you just startled me. I was miles away.” Ryo smiled up at Dee. “Everything okay?”
“I should be askin’ you that. Somethin’ botherin’ ya?”
“No, just trying to figure something out.
“Hey, if you got a problem, maybe I can help. You know I’m always willin’ to lend an ear.”
“I know, and I appreciate it, but in this case the problem has to do with you.”
“Not sure I like the sound of that.” Now Dee was the one frowning.
“Relax, it’s nothing bad, just… I have no idea what to get you for Christmas. I’ve been racking my brain for days, for all the good it’s done. The only thing I’ve got from it so far is a headache.”
Dee leaned closer. “Babe, if that’s what’s botherin’ ya, just tie a ribbon around yourself. You’re all I want.”
