Dee rubbed his arms as he and Ryo hustled across the parking lot to Ryo’s car.
“Gettin’ a bit nippy,” he commented.
“A bit? December’s only just around the corner; I’m surprised we haven’t had any snow yet. I would’ve thought you’d have dug out your winter coat by now.” All Dee had on over his clothes was a sports jacket.
“I have. Put it on this mornin’ to come to work and found one of the sleeves is comin’ off. Guess I should’a checked it a while back; it’s gettin’ kinda old, had it for years.”
“Everything wears out eventually, especially with the strain this job puts on things.”
“Don’t I know it.” Dee slid gratefully into the passenger seat as Ryo unlocked the doors. “And now it’s nearly winter, all the stores are full of summer clothes. Who thinks about shoppin’ for winter coats in the middle of summer?”
“There must be somewhere you can get a new coat,” Ryo said reasonably.
“If there isn’t, I’m gonna be freezin’ more than my ass off,” Dee grumbled, shivering in the chill. The car seat felt icy beneath him.
Ryo started the car and turned the heating up. “Why don’t we swing by your place before we go over to mine? We can collect your coat and I’ll see if I can fix the sleeve for you, at least make it so you can wear it until you get a new coat.”
“You’d do that?” Dee sounded surprised.
“Of course. I can’t have you out on the streets with me and too cold to hold your gun,” Ryo teased. “I’ve fixed enough tears in Bikky’s clothes; sewing a coat sleeve back in place shouldn’t be too much of a problem. You’re always fixing things for me.”
Dee smiled. “Thanks, babe.”
