“Everyone secure?” Ianto asked, making sure no tails were in the way as he closed the rear hatch of the family SUV, having loaded beach essentials and Fluffs.
Head and shoulders jammed into the back of the car, his rear end sticking out, Jack was fumbling with car seat straps.
“Almost, if Rosie the wriggler would just hold still for two minutes… I wish Meriel was here; she’d would’ve had everyone strapped in tight in no time.”
Unfortunately for Jack, their eldest daughter was away on a school trip.
Nosy peered over the back of the seat and hummed sternly at Rosie, who immediately stopped wriggling and let Jack secure her in her seat, although her bottom lip stuck out in a pout. The two-year-old had been enjoying the game.
Jack struggled upright, rubbing his back. “Sometimes I wonder if going on daytrips is worth the effort. I know the kids enjoy themselves, but we end up stressed and exhausted.” He looked frazzled, his hair sticking up and his t-shirt half untucked. “We’re not even out of the garage and I’m already done in.”
“Never mind.” Ianto pecked him on the lips. “You can take a nap while I drive.”
