A/N: Double drabble.
Life for a Torchwood agent, Ianto mused as he made his way into the Hub, was a series of ups and downs, most notably being woken up in the middle of the night to be dragged down here, beneath the Roald Dahl Plas, in order to deal with yet another crisis.
He didn’t hate his job; in fact he couldn’t honestly imagine doing anything else with his life. But forcing himself out of his comfy bed at six every morning was bad enough without being dragged from his badly needed rest at half past two by the strident ringing of his phone. Especially when he hadn’t made it to bed until just after midnight.
“What’s up?” he asked as he shambled into the boardroom. Jack and Tosh were the only two people there; apparently the rest of the team had yet to arrive.
“About an hour ago, Tosh’s monitoring systems picked up what appears to be a spaceship approaching earth. It’s still somewhere beyond Saturn, but we sent out the usual greeting on all frequencies. Just waiting to see if we get a reply.”
Ianto went to make coffee; if this was an invasion, they’d need to be wide awake.
