“Told you I’d make an honest man of your dad one of these days.” Steve grinned at Grace.
“Didn’t tell me I’d have to wear a tux for the wedding though, did ya?” Danny grumbled. “Goddam bowties. I’d still be tryin’ to tie the damned thing if Grace hadn’t rescued me.”
Steve flushed, turning away slightly, but Danny, eagle-eyed as ever, noticed.
“Hah! You too! You had to get someone to help you too, didn’t ya?”
Grace giggled. “I have yet to meet a man who can tie his own bowtie.”
“That’s because it’s not possible. I should know; must’ve tried fifty times!”
“Stop complaining, Danno.” Grace pecked him on the forehead, taller than he was now. “You look gorgeous. Now come on or you’ll both be late for your wedding.”
“Smart kid.” Steve winked at Danny.
“Isn’t she?” Danny grinned, his pride in his daughter shining through. “I’m thinkin’ maybe we should keep her.”
“Dad!” Grace looked at Steve and shook her head. “Sometimes I wonder how you put up with him.”
“Takes practice and patience; you of all people should know that. But you know what else? He’s worth it.”
This time it was Danny’s turn to blush.
