The people of Abydos have welcomed Daniel into their homes, and their lives, more completely than he's ever experienced since the deaths of his parents. After years of feeling unwanted and not fitting in, he’s found a place where he feels he could actually belong, even spend the rest of his life, surrounded by people he’s already come to care deeply about. Naturally, or maybe not so naturally when he thinks about it, the one place he fits isn’t even on earth. It’s still hard to wrap his head around being on another planet.
It hardly matters; the Abydonians are good people, living a simple life, a life he can understand. Simple doesn’t equate to easy; they’re in the middle of a desert after all, but…
When it’s time to leave, he can’t bring himself to. What is there for him to go back to? Here, he can start over, build a life, a future. There’s so much to learn, it’s every anthropologist’s dream, but it’s more than that.
For the first time in a long time he feels at home, and a lot of that has to do with the chief’s dark-eyed, beautiful daughter. Sha’re, the woman he loves.
