“Ianto? Ianto, are you alright?”
Jack’s voice seemed to be coming from a long way off. Ianto knew his lover was talking to him, Jack was using his name and there weren’t any other Iantos around, or not that Ianto knew about, but answering him would have taken too much effort so he didn’t bother trying.
“Ianto? Speak to me!” Jack sounded a bit closer now. “Don’t just lie there; say something!”
Why did Jack have to keep badgering him? And what did he want Ianto to say anyway? Oh, right.
“Something.”
“What?”
“I don’t know. You told me to say ‘something’, so I did.” What more did Jack want from him? Ianto forced his eyes open; he hadn’t realised they were closed until that moment. He almost shut them again; it was a bit disconcerting to see Jack staring at him from mere inches away.
“Are you alright?” Jack asked again.
“I don’t know. Am I?” Ianto frowned. “Did something happen?”
“You don’t remember?”
“If I remembered, I wouldn’t be asking.” Ianto knew he sounded testy, but who could blame him? Jack kept asking him silly questions.
“That thing we found exploded.”
“Oh.” Ianto groaned. “Isn’t being immortal fun.”
