A/N: Triple drabble.
Before becoming the Slayer, Buffy had never given any thought to the world ending. It was simply there, it existed, always had and always would, at least for millions of years beyond her own lifetime, so what was there to worry about? Planet earth was a constant, one of the few things she could rely on with absolute certainty.
She’d been so naïve.
She knows better now.
The world is under constant threat, not just from pollution and terrorists but from dangers never covered on the evening news: Vampires, demons, creatures of the night…
Most of demon-kind seem to think earth should belong to them, that they have dibs just because they were here first. But they were bad tenants, so humans kicked them out, and now the forces of darkness are trying every trick in the book to regain control, not just of the planet but of everyone on it. Either that or destroy everything like toddlers having a tantrum.
Somewhere along the way, the Apocalypse has become an everyday topic of conversation, which is a little unsettling. The end of the world’s no longer an unimaginable concept, it’s something Buffy and her friends just prevented last week. Again. Seriously, she’s lost count of how many times everything’s almost been obliterated only for some Big Bad’s nefarious plans to be foiled at the last minute. Don’t worry if you missed it; there’ll be another Apocalypse along shortly. Get your front row seat now and be sure to stock up on popcorn and soda, because you won’t wanna miss it, especially the part where the heroes save the day.
“How many times have we done this now?” Buffy muses.
“Done what?” Xander slouches along beside her.
“Saved the world.”
Xander shrugs. “Dunno. I wasn’t counting.”
That says it all really.
