“I think I sort of envy Kneebles,” Ianto commented, watching the friendly, fuzzy creatures happily gambolling around their enclosure in the dim illumination of the nightlights he’d set up. It was daytime up aboveground, but the nocturnal aliens didn’t know that.
Slipping his arms around Ianto from behind, Jack rested his chin on his lover’s shoulder. “They really seem to enjoy life, don’t they? Not a care in the world, all they have to do is eat, sleep, and play. No responsibilities, no stress, no worry. Not even any predators to watch out for. Everything they could possibly need is handed to them, and all they’re expected to do in return is clean up the occasional patch of slime, which for them is like Christmas.”
“They do have it pretty good,” Ianto agreed. “But that’s not why I envy them.”
“It’s not?” Jack drew back to stare at Ianto in surprise, but since the other man was facing away from him, he found himself staring his lover in the ear.
“Nope.” Ianto finally turned to look Jack in the eyes. “Think how much easier it would be to keep the Hub clean if I could scale walls like a Kneeble.”
