Jack was in a mood; he’d been snapping at everyone since arriving back at the Hub following a Rift retrieval at the garden centre. Apparently he’d spent half an hour rummaging among displays of bedding plants and shrubs in tubs, finally emerging smeared with pollen, and sneezing his head off even though he didn’t usually suffer with hay fever. Perhaps his grumpiness was understandable, but the sneezing had stopped an hour ago and he was still like a bear with a sore head.
After being snapped at yet again, Ianto decided he’d had enough.
“What is the matter with you? One minute you’re ignoring me, the next you’re snapping my head off!”
“I’m not ignoring you!” Jack gave his head an irritable shake. “If you spoke a bit louder, I might be able to hear you over that infernal buzzing!”
“What buzzing?” Now Ianto was confused.
“You don’t hear it? It’s been driving me mad since I got back to the Hub!”
“If there’s any buzzing, it’s in your head. Maybe there’s a loose connection in your brain. You’d better talk to Owen.”
Torchwood’s medic soon found the problem.
“There’s a bee in your ear. Lucky it didn’t sting you.”
