Dee’s alarm clock went off, strident and impossible to ignore. Groaning, he rolled onto his back and reached to switch it off. Dammit, why’d it have to wake him just then? He’d been in the middle of the kind of dream he would’ve been happy never to wake from, and already the details were slipping away from him.
Gripping himself beneath the covers, he finished what the dream had started then wiped his hand clean on his pyjama pants. They were going in the wash anyway, or would be when he got home from work.
Sitting up and swinging his legs over the side of the bed, he scratched at his unshaven jaw, feeling the sandpaper bristles against his fingertips. Work wasn’t an enticing thought; all he really wanted to do was collapse back into bed and grab a few more hours’ sleep. He could take the day off, call in sick, sleep as late as he wanted…
He shook his head. Tempting as that might be, if he stayed home his new partner would have to work with someone else; Dee couldn’t bear the thought.
No, working alongside the delectable Ryo Maclean every day was no hardship at all.
