Owen slid further down in his seat at the boardroom table, letting his eyes unfocus and his mind wander as Tosh rambled on about… something. He wasn’t listening, why bother? He had a headache, and anyway, it wasn’t as if he’d understand a word she said. Besides, whatever she was going on about, it was nothing to do with him. He’d rather think about that redhead at the bar last night. Maybe if she hadn’t been with her friends…
Something slapped against the table, making Owen jump.
“Right.” Jack stood up. “Now we all know what we need to do, let’s get to it. Whatever this thing is, it’s not going to catch itself. Owen, make sure you bring the equipment Tosh mentioned. You’ll be the key player in this. Our uninvited guest is definitely hostile, three people have already been injured, that we know of, but there could be more. We need to take this thing down fast. If we fail, we won’t get a second chance; we can’t afford a single mistake.”
“What?” Owen sat up straight, suddenly panicking. “What’re you talking about?”
“Weren’t you listening?” Jack demanded.
Owen winced. “I’m just a little shaky on the details.”
