Storming into the Hub from the underground garage, Jack stomped his way up to his office, pulling his coat off and tossing it carelessly at Ianto before throwing himself into his desk chair with so much force it skidded backwards on its wheels until he hit the wall. Items on a shelf beside him teetered precariously, but miraculously nothing fell.
“That’s it,” Jack snapped, shoving both hands through his hair. “I’ve had it, as of this moment I quit!”
“You can’t do that, Sir,” Ianto said mildly, shaking Jack’s coat out and hanging it on the rack before fetching the clothes brush.
“Why the hell not?” Jack demanded, glaring at Torchwood’s GSO.
“You’re the boss. If one of us were to quit, you’d recruit a replacement, but you can’t leave the team without a leader.”
“Oh yeah? I’ve done it before!”
“You have,” Ianto replied, unfazed. “Temporarily, and we just about managed to keep things running, but I’d like to think if you quit permanently, you’d make the proper arrangements for your replacement first, rather than just leaving us in the lurch again.”
That stung. “You could take my place.”
“I think not.”
Jack pouted pitifully. “Being the boss sucks.”
