“Days like this, I wish I’d never quit smoking,” Ianto admitted as the battered team slumped onto the Hub’s sofa, all four of them just about managing to fit. It was a bit of a squeeze, but none of them cared, just glad to be off their feet.
“You smoked?” That surprised Tosh.
“Back in my teens. I quit after I moved to London, needed to conserve what money I had while I was looking for a job.”
“Smoking’s bad for you,” Owen said from where he was sprawled limply at the far end of the sofa. He cracked open one eye to peer blearily past the girls towards Ianto, at the other end. “You’re better off without it.”
“Yes, Owen, I’m aware of that. Doesn’t mean I don’t still get the occasional craving.” Ianto’s eyes were closed, his head tipped back against the lumpy sofa cushions.
“Yeah, well…” Owen started, before trailing off. “Whatever.”
“What now then?” Gwen asked, rubbing wearily at her eyes.
“Maybe we should all quit.” That was Owen again. “Jack’s swanned off so what’re we still doin’ here?”
“Our jobs?” Ianto sat up. “Someone’s got to save the world. Looks like it’s up to us.”
