A/N: Triple drabble.
As cops, Dee and Ryo were used to the general public not showing them much in the way of respect. They were public servants, doing an increasingly difficult job to the best of their abilities, but people always seemed to resent their presence. That was true even of the ones who called them for assistance.
Here they were, in some guy’s home, having responded to a call about a robbery, and yes, the victim had every right to be upset. Someone had broken into his home by smashing a window and had then helped themselves to a collection of antique silver that had apparently been in the family for four generations. It had all been insured, but to the owner that was beside the point. The items held a great deal of sentimental value for him, not least because one of the urns contained his great grandfather’s ashes.
“What are they doing, spreading that filthy stuff everywhere?” the irate man demanded, staring in disbelief as the crime scene unit started dusting for fingerprints.
“Their jobs,” Ryo responded with strained patience. “If we’re to have any chance of getting your property back, we need to find any evidence the thieves might have left behind, especially fingerprints.”
“You’d better be going to clean this goddamn mess up afterwards! I know my rights! I could sue the NYPD for property damage, have the cost taken out of your wages!”
It wasn’t the first time he’d made that threat, and hearing it was getting old. As he turned and stalked away, grumbling something about irresponsible idiots who had no respect for their elders and betters, Ryo made a surprisingly eloquent rude gesture behind the homeowner’s back.
Dee bit his lip to keep from laughing. His partner was nowhere near as straight-laced as people assumed.
