Temptation. Ryo sighed, running a hand through his hair; that one word was Dee Laytner in a nutshell. Good-looking, self-confident, and bisexual, it would have been impossible not to notice him even if they hadn’t been assigned as partners. To make matters worse, he was likeable, charming, fun to be around, even if he was rather too handsy for Ryo’s comfort. Keeping Dee at arm’s length was proving far more difficult than he would’ve expected; it got harder every day.
Sometimes Ryo felt as is there was some kind of demonic entity perched on his shoulder, whispering in his ear. Things like, ‘What are you waiting for? You like him, so what would it hurt to just give in? You know you want to, why keep pretending you’re not interested?’
Why indeed? Dee certainly wasn’t showing any sign of losing interest, quite the opposite. It seemed the more Ryo rebuffed his partner’s advances, the harder Dee tried to seduce him. Thankfully, almost every time Ryo felt himself starting to give in, Bikky would appear, seemingly out of nowhere, to save him from himself, fighting Dee off in all the ways Ryo could never bring himself to.
That was another thing that bothered Ryo. He’d been drawn to Dee from the moment they’d met, then Bikky had roller-skated into his life, and Dee had been clear about not liking the boy…
‘Did I decide to take him in just as a buffer between myself and Dee?’
Ryo didn’t want to believe that, because he genuinely cared about his foster son, enjoyed having him around, loved being a parent with the opportunity to shape a young life for the better. But would he have even made that impulsive decision if he hadn’t felt so afraid of being alone with Dee?
OoOoOoO
“Dammit!” Dee muttered to himself, beating a hasty retreat from Ryo’s apartment after yet another run-in with the resident demonic hellspawn known as Bikky Goldman. Everything had been going so well, Ryo had been melting beneath him, returning his kisses, clutching at his body to pull him closer, and then…
The apartment door had been flung open, a small whirlwind had hurtled into the room, and started beating the crap outta him! How did the brat always know? Was he telepathic or something? Was Ryo sending out distress signals at a pitch too high for Dee to hear? All he knew for sure was that once again he’d had his ass handed to him by a kid less than half his size. It was humiliating!
He could’ve saved himself, except that hitting little kids was against the law, and anyway, Dee wasn’t the kind of guy to retaliate against a minor, regardless of the provocation. Not to mention Ryo would go ballistic if he did, and any hopes of winning his partner’s heart would go right out the window.
Maybe he could get an amulet or protection spell that was effective against minor demons. It would save him a lot of bruises!
