Perched on a rock at the water’s edge, knees drawn up, forearms resting across them, and one hand holding an almost empty soda bottle, Ryo gazed out across the water, soaking up the sunshine and breathing the salty sea air.
A few yards away, Dee was staring too, but not out to sea. His attention was fully on his lover, drinking in the sight of Ryo, barefoot, wearing nothing but a pair of jeans and his sunglasses. There was a sheen to his lightly tanned skin from the sunscreen Dee had liberally coated him with earlier, and his honey-colored hair was blowing about in the warm breeze. It was rare for him to be so relaxed.
In Dee’s opinion Ryo was never less than gorgeous, but right now he was breath-taking. He looked like an island castaway, or a beachcomber waiting for the tide to turn.
Moving quietly and carefully, not wanting to disturb his lover’s reverie, Dee pulled his backpack closer and rummaged through it for sketchbook and pencils, all the time wishing for an easel and watercolors so he could really do justice to the sight before him. Well, sometimes you just had to work with what you’d got, and Dee was determined to capture this moment so that he’d never forget it.
Oblivious to his partner’s scrutiny, Ryo raised the bottle to his lips and tipped his head back as he drained the last inch of soda. Dropping his arm back to his knees, he twirled the empty bottle idly between his fingers. Dee couldn’t help wondering what his lover was thinking about; perhaps he’d ask later.
With deft strokes of the pencil, he roughly sketched the rock, then the outline of Ryo’s body, before beginning to add more detail. This would be one for his wall.
