The click and flash of a camera going off startled Ryo awake, and he opened his eyes, scowling, ready to give Dee an earful for messing about with his new camera again. Ever since Ryo had given him the damned thing at Christmas, Dee had taken to practically stalking him, snapping off candid shots of him bent over getting something out of the oven, in the middle of working out, half-dressed, or even when he was just out of the shower, naked and wet.
The angry words died on his lips when he realised it couldn’t be Dee snapping pictures of him because he could feel his lover’s warm weight leaning against him as they sprawled untidily on the sofa, where they’d collapsed as soon as they’d arrived back at Ryo’s place. They’d only meant to sit down for a few minutes, just to rest their aching legs after being on their feet all day, but now it was getting dark, and Ryo hadn’t even started fixing dinner. They must have dozed off.
Blinking away the afterimages from the camera’s flash, Ryo peered through the dimness.
Carol smiled as she lowered her phone. “Sorry, Ryo, I didn’t mean to wake you, I just couldn’t resist. You guys just looked so cute, snuggled up together fast asleep.”
Ryo’s frown melted into a smile; how could he be angry at Carol? “It’s okay, didn’t mean to doze off. What time is it?
“Almost six-thirty.”
“That late? I should get dinner going.” Sliding out from under Dee, who was still dead to the world, Ryo got to his feet and stretched, vertebrae popping. “Carol? D’you think you could send a copy of that photo to my phone?”
“Sure thing! And then I’ll help with dinner, if you like.”
“Thanks. That would be great.”
