Being a detective, Dee noticed right away that something was a bit off with Drake. They’d been friends since their uniform days, the two of them and Ted, all working out of the same precinct. How they’d wound up working together as detectives was anyone’s guess, and something Dee wasn’t about to question. They had his back just as he had theirs. Maybe that was why he was so quick to notice.
He'd seen Drake in every mood, but this was somehow different. “You’re kinda quiet today. What’s up?”
Drake had been staring sightlessly into space, but now he turned, a slightly confused expression on his face.
“JJ kissed me last night. Up on the roof.”
Yeah, that would do it. Dee smiled wryly. “Sorry, man. Welcome to my world.”
But Drake was shaking his head. “No, you don’t understand. I liked it! All these years I was sure I was straight, just could never keep any girl happy. Now JJ kisses me and it’s like I’m seein’ clearly, maybe for the first time ever, and… I really like JJ. I mean, I already did, we’re partners, friends, but… What should I do?”
Dee grinned. “Kiss him. See what happens.”
