“Whelp, guess that’s the end of another glorious weekend afloat,” Dee said regretfully as he steered their cabin cruiser through the marina to dock at their assigned slip, nosing gently in, and cutting the engine to let the boat glide the rest of the way. “We’ll be back to the grind come mornin’.”
“We’re lucky; it’s more than most people ever get,” Ryo reminded him, jumping nimbly from the deck to the boards of the floating dock, stern line in hand, to begin the task of securing the boat to its moorings.
“Yeah, I know, but I’m greedy; two days never seems long enough. Before we get anywhere, it’s time to turn around and come back.” Dee ran surefooted along the narrow walkway to the foredeck, where he tossed his lover the port bowline, before grabbing the starboard line and hopping over the side. Tying up securely was essential; the weather might be calm right now, but storms could blow up out of nowhere. If a boat came loose from its mooring lines in rough weather, there was no telling how much damage it might cause.
It was getting dark by the time Dee and Ryo had their boat secured; the marina’s lights were starting to come on as they went back aboard to collect their bags and make sure everywhere was locked up tight.
“We can go out again next time we have a couple of days off,” Ryo said, picking up the conversation again.
“Yeah, weather permittin’. Wish we could take a whole week, maybe even two… Wouldn’t it be great if we could get all the way down to Florida someday without havin’ to pay air fare?”
“Maybe someday we will. We’d probably need more than a couple of weeks though.”
“Guess we’ll just haveta keep dreamin’.”
