“I’m fine, Dee. Don’t make such a fuss!” Ryo brushed off Dee’s helping hand.
“You’re not fine; you’re limpin’, so don’t try tellin’ me you’re fine!”
Ryo gave an exasperated sigh; Dee could be such a mother hen at times.
“Of course I’m limping! When Rogan threw the car door open it hit me on the knee, which was entirely my own fault. I was so focussed on not giving him a chance to make a break for it that I stood too close.” It had hurt when the car door had connected solidly with his left kneecap, but Ryo hadn’t let that stop him from cuffing Rogan and reading him his rights while Dee dealt with Rogan’s accomplice.
“Maybe you should get it checked out.”
“What? I have a bruised knee, that’s all! I’ll put ice on it later if I need to, but right now we have work to do. I’m a cop, Dee, same as you, not some fragile weakling that needs to be looked after. I’ve had worse injuries from karate training, so stop treating me like I can’t take care of myself.”
“Okay, sorry, I just worry when you’re hurt.”
“I know, but I’m fine.”
