A/N: Triple drabble.
Being able to convert part of the top-floor landing into their own laundry and utilities room had made life so much easier for Dee and Ryo. There was plenty of room for a chest freezer, to keep produce from their roof garden fresh for use over winter, as well as the washing machine, tumble drier, and ironing board. It saved lugging the laundry downstairs and back up again twice a week, as well as the endless treks to transfer the wet items into the tumble drier.
Ryo had decided to get a laundry load done, partly because it was starting to pile up again, and partly because he was feeling restless. The investigation into their latest homicide case was going nowhere, and although he’d tried to settle down and watch TV with Dee after dinner, he’d been unable to concentrate. He’d needed to busy himself with something, and he usually found it soothing to do household chores.
When an ad break came along, Dee turned away from the TV, looking towards the door to the laundry room. Ryo still hadn’t come back. How long did it take him to load the washing machine and get it started? When he still hadn’t returned by the next ad break, Dee went to investigate.
He found his lover sitting on one of their folding chairs, staring at the washing machine, where their laundry was slowly spinning around behind the glass door, amid the foamy suds of the detergent.
“Hey. You okay, babe?”
“I’m fine. I’d forgotten how relaxing this can be.”
“What, watchin’ laundry?”
“Yeah, it’s almost hypnotic. Years ago, I used the local laundromat, and I’d always take a book with me, but I never got any reading done.”
Dee laughed softly. “Well, enjoy watchin’ the laundry spin. I’ll stick with football.”
