The New Year’s Eve party was in full swing. Music played in the background, mostly drowned out by conversation and laughter, all the guests had a drink in hand and were helping themselves to food from the buffet. Ryo had outdone himself, spending all morning cooking, and most of the previous day baking.
Dee moved among their guests, making sure everyone was enjoying themselves, and finally tracked his lover down to where he was perched on a windowsill out of the crush, sipping a glass of wine and staring out at the gently falling snow.
“What’re ya doin’ over here all by yourself?”
“Just having a breather. I’ve been on my feet all day and there’s nowhere else to sit. What’s up?”
“It’s gettin’ on for midnight, gotta stop the music soon and put the TV on.”
“Already?”
“Time flies when you’re havin’ fun. You are havin’ a good time, right?”
“Of course I am.” Ryo smiled up at his lover. “New Year celebrations are always fun, seeing the old year out and looking forward to the next twelve months. It’s what comes after that’s the problem.”
“Mornin’ after hangovers?” Dee guessed.
“No.” Ryo smiled wryly. “All the cleaning up.”
