A/N: Double drabble.
“How can they be so fast?” Ianto panted, tearing across the grass. “Do they have invisible wheels or something?”
“They’re closer to the ground,” Jack replied breathlessly. “Lower centre of gravity for better balance, shorter legs that can take faster steps, plus they had a head start. Suppose we should be grateful they’re going in the same direction, so we don’t have to split up to go after them.”
“Good point. Where the hell do they think they’re going though?”
“I’m not sure they care. At least they’re not heading towards the river.”
“No, they’re just running towards a busy road.”
“Dammit!” Jack dredged up all the speed he could muster. “Can’t let them reach that!”
Ianto lengthened his own strides, ignoring the throbbing in his legs. His heart was pounding with panic. All it had taken was a brief moment of inattention. He’d thought Jack was watching the kids while he set out the picnic. Next thing either of them knew, the four-year-old Holy Terrors were off and running across the park. Dropping everything and leaving Meriel to guard their lunch, Jack and Ianto had given chase.
“I swear in future I’m putting them on leashes!” Jack ground out.
