A/N: Triple drabble.
After his parents were killed, Ryo had been left with a houseful of stuff and no idea what to do with it all. He’d known he couldn’t keep the house itself, but a lot of the things in it had sentimental value.
Trouble was, there wouldn’t be room in his aunt’s house for everything, even after he sold or donated everything he could bear to part with, so the rest had been packed up and taken to a storage facility.
After he’d graduated from the police academy and rented his first apartment, he’d visited the storage unit and retrieved some of the furniture, including his parents’ bed. The apartment had been small and cramped but furnishing it with familiar items had immediately made it feel like home. Then, when he’d eventually moved to a bigger place, he’d been able have more of his parents’ furniture around him, but there was still a lot in storage.
“I don’t know what to do with it all,” he admitted to Dee as they moved chests and cabinets, paintings and vases, to get at the big antique dining table and chairs they were going to have in Dee’s apartment now they had enough space for it.
“Why d’ya haveta do anything with it? I mean, we’re usin’ some of it, which is great, but you wouldn’t have kept it all if it wasn’t important to ya.”
“I suppose. It’s just, there’s so much here that I don’t need, and I’ll never use.”
“Babe, when you’re ready to part with stuff, you will, and if you’re never ready to let these things go, that’s okay too. There’s no time limit on how long you’re allowed to hold on to memories.”
“Thank you.” Ryo kissed Dee’s cheek.
“What was that for?”
“Being so understanding.”
“Always, babe.”
