A/N: Double drabble.
Getting out of the car and pulling his coat collar up for what protection it afforded him from the cold, blustery wind and lashing rain, Dee studied their surroundings for a moment.
“This is like the start of a bad horror novel. It was a dark and stormy night…”
Ryo snickered. “Not really an appropriate setting though, is it? I mean if it was the derelict warehouses down by the river, a row or rundown tenements, or even a museum after hours, you might get the haunted house vibe, but there’s nothing remotely spooky about a brightly lit shopping mall.”
The wind howled around them as the rain hammered down. A crash of thunder echoed off the nearby buildings, lightning flashed, and then all the lights went out, plunging the mall and its surroundings into darkness.
Dee turned to his partner. “You just had to say it, didn’t you? Now you’ve jinxed us!”
“Hey, don’t blame me, I didn’t turn the lights off! The lightning must have hit a transformer somewhere. It’s hardly the first time a storm’s caused a power outage.”
“We’re a week from Halloween and investigating a murder at the mall. Don’t tell me it’s a coincidence!”
