“You know what I like best about England?” Dee said as he and Ryo left the guest house where they were spending the night and strolled through the picturesque village towards the nearby pub for an after-dinner drink, and maybe a game of darts. They weren’t all that good yet, but they were learning.
“The beer?” Ryo hazarded a guess.
Dee snorted. “No. Well, yeah, the British know their ale, but that’s not what I was thinkin’ about.”
“Okay, so enlighten me.”
“Everywhere’s so close together! No matter where we stay, there’s always a pub just down the road, or a restaurant, or some place of interest. Not like in the States where it feels like ya gotta travel half a day to get where ya wanna go, and when ya do get there it’s almost time to head back.”
Ryo nodded. “I know what you mean. Back home, even just going out for a meal means driving, or taking a taxi, but here, most of the time we can just walk, and we get to see a lot more.”
As they paused by the village pond, watching the ducks, Dee smiled, relaxed and content.
“England’s like a different world.”
