Over the years, Ryo had come to the conclusion that Dee wasn’t as lazy as he’d initially assumed. His partner conserved his energy for when it was needed, taking power naps throughout the day, but that was less about laziness than it was about making sure he was refreshed and alert when it mattered. Being half-asleep at a crime scene could easily lead to missing vital clues.
Just like everyone else, there were tasks Dee hated doing, such as the paperwork involved in their jobs, but if necessary, as it sometimes was when Ryo was off work through illness or injury, he would knuckle down and get it done. Maybe not without complaining about it to his partner later, but Ryo could live with that. It wasn’t as if he never had complaints of his own.
Nevertheless, Dee was the kind of guy that, once he did get started on something, carried out the job to the best of his ability. The main problem tended to be getting him started in the first place. He was never in any hurry, and most of the time Ryo didn’t mind too much because Dee did get things done eventually, even if he sometimes needed to be reminded. Today though…
Hands on his hips, Ryo glared down at his lover. “I thought you said you’d clean the bathroom and do the laundry while I was out.”
Sprawled on the sofa watching a baseball game on TV, Dee turned his head. “I’ll do it after the game finishes. What time is it?”
“Late. I’ve been in court half the day, and from what I can see, you’ve done nothing at all while I’ve been gone.” Ryo had come in, gone to shower and change, and found their en suite bathroom littered with damp towels, and the laundry hamper still overflowing. “I’m hot, tired, and hungry; all I want is a shower and something to eat, but I suppose I’ll have to do the cleaning and laundry first since you’re so intent on watching TV. Do we even have any clean towels left?”
Maybe it was a bit unfair to guilt-trip his lover, but Ryo knew from experience that it was often necessary to provide some kind of incentive in order to get Dee off his ass and doing something useful, and guilt was just as effective as the promise of a reward.
“Sorry, babe, I wasn’t thinkin’. I was only gonna have the game on in the background while I got on with the other stuff, but… I sorta got side-tracked. Look, why don’t you use the guest bathroom to shower while I clean ours? Or you could have a relaxin’ soak in the bath. I’ll find ya some towels, then sort the laundry and get a load on before I start with the cleanin’.” Dee scrambled off the sofa, radiating guilt.
“Well, I guess I could bath does sound good now I think about it.”
“Thought it might. I could bring you some snacks and a glass of wine.”
Ryo smiled. “That would be lovely. Thanks.” After all, Dee had been home all day relaxing while Ryo had spent much of the last few hours sitting on hard, uncomfortable benches, waiting to be called to testify. He’d then been grilled on every tiny detail by the defence attorney, who’d clearly been fishing for something he could use to discredit Ryo’s testimony. He hadn’t turned up anything though, Ryo’s trial prep had been far too thorough, and the prosecution had won the case. The way Ryo saw it, having gone through all that, surely he deserved to indulge himself a bit, and if Dee wanted to pamper him he wasn’t going to say no.
“Great. Go get in the bath; I’ll bring the towels and the other stuff once I’ve got the laundry goin’.” Dee vanished into their bedroom, leaving Ryo to head in the opposite direction.
Ten minutes later, while Ryo was relaxing amid lavender-scented bubbles, Dee let himself into the guest bathroom, bringing with him towels and Ryo’s bathrobe, all of which he draped over the towel rail. He left again only to return a few minutes later with the half bottle of wine from the refrigerator, a glass, and a tray bearing a bunch of grapes, cubes of cheese, and crackers.
“That should keep ya goin’ until dinner time. Thought I’d order Chinese once you’re outta the bath. That way no one has to cook.”
“Mm, good idea.”
Dee pulled the bathroom stool alongside the tub and arranged everything so it was within Ryo’s reach. Then he poured the wine and left.
Smiling contentedly, Ryo picked up the glass and took a sip, then turned his attention to munching on cheese and crackers, taking the edge of his appetite. His mood was rapidly improving; there was nothing like being waited on hand and foot to make a man feel loved.
Half an hour later, just as Ryo was thinking he should probably get out of the bath soon, although he didn’t really want to, the door opened and closed.
“Looks like you’re enjoyin’ yourself.”
“Mm,” Ryo sighed. “I really needed this.”
There was a rustling sound and Ryo opened his eyes to see Dee, naked, shedding his robe and grinning at him as he stepped into the tub.
“What’re you…?”
“I cleaned the bathroom, but I didn’t wanna mess it up again by showering, and since this one’ll have to cleaned now anyway, I figured I’d join ya.” Dee reached for the wine glass Ryo was holding and took a sip before handing it back, then helped himself to a sprig of grapes and a bit of cheese.
Ryo laughed. “Any excuse.”
“You bet! No better incentive to get the cleanin’ done than knowin’ you’re in here, all naked, warm, and wet. You think you’re relaxed now, but I’m pretty sure I can do a whole lot more for ya than soakin’ in hot water ever will.”
“I’ll bet you can.” With one last sip of wine, Ryo set the glass aside, shuffled forward, and leaned in for a kiss. Now that the chores were done, there was no reason not to indulge Dee’s whims, and besides, there was no doubt in his mind he was going to enjoy this every bit as much as Dee was.
