Dee’s jaw dropped. “Oh, you have gotta be kiddin’ me!”
Being cops meant that he and Ryo sometimes had to deal with truly bizarre situations, and they’d had some doozies, but there were times he wondered if the good citizens of New York really knew what the police existed for. Their job was to solve crimes and arrest criminals, not deal with stuff like this.
They’d been sent to investigate a disturbance at a restaurant and had arrived expecting to find a robbery in progress, or at the very least, some kind of violent altercation between staff and customers, but this…
“I told that stupid idiot not to encourage the damn things, but he wouldn’t listen, said they were hungry!” the head chef was yelling. “Now look at my beautiful kitchen! I have valued customers waiting for their meals and I can do nothing! Nothing!” There was an almighty crash as a pan fell from the stovetop, the contents splattering across the floor, and the chef wailed louder. “Do something! Before they destroy everything!”
The rest of the kitchen staff were huddled off to one side, trying to keep out of the way. They all flinched in unison as a stack of plates toppled from the countertop and smashed.
“You need animal control, not the police.” Ryo pulled out his phone and dialled. Identifying himself, he requested assistance, giving the restaurant’s name and address. “Yes, there are three raccoons rampaging through the kitchen.”
He’d let the experts deal with them.
