Summary: Couldn’t the Rift have sent something more friendly?

A/N: Double drabble.
Anything could come through the Rift, from the past, present, or future, and from any planet, inhabited or not. There’d been times Torchwood had received rocks, and a bizarre kind of algae that may have been the beginning of life on a distant planet.
They got a fair number of plants, which was why Owen had asked for and got his hothouse, and of course confused and bewildered animals were not exactly uncommon. Not all of them came from other planets either. Earth animals turned up from time to time, although understandably there were fewer of those, and they were usually from far in the past, dinosaurs and such.
This one was of a rather more recently evolved species, and Ianto couldn’t help thinking that the Rift was punishing him for some reason. If it had to send him something from earth, couldn’t it have been something nice and cuddly, a puppy or some kittens? Or maybe a pony. He’d spent many hours as a boy wishing for one.
No such luck.
He stared at the new arrival, and it stared back. He hoped it wasn’t going to attack. Could Tasmanian Devils climb trees? Maybe he should call the zoo.
