“Some huntin’ dog you are,” Dee grumbled.
Dick, the fearless miniature dachshund, was sitting in his safe place on Dee’s foot, watching apprehensively as a large spider scuttled across the floor.
Sliding his foot out from under the dog’s fuzzy butt, Dee nabbed the spider with his bare hand and slung it out the window, hoping it wouldn’t drop on someone’s head. Thankfully, Ryo was at work and wouldn’t be home for at least another hour. The spider should be long gone by then; he’d never have to know it had even been there.
Returning to the sofa, Dee dropped heavily onto the seat.
“There, see? Gone. Y’know, if you were a cat you’d have pounced on that spider the moment it appeared. Probably eaten it too. Cats are predators, they know how to deal with creepy crawlies.”
Looking up at Dee from big brown eyes, Dick whined.
“I don’t get it. A rat wouldn’t stand a chance around you, but spiders freak ya out. Ryo doesn’t like ‘em either, but ya won’t catch him runnin’ away when he sees one.” Dee shrugged. “Guess ya must’ve picked up your phobias from your owner, the way kids do from their parents.”
