A/N: Double drabble.
Ever since Jack had returned from his travels with the Doctor, he’d been… different. Ianto could tell, even if the rest of the team seemed oblivious. Sometimes he wished they were more observant, but perhaps it was better that they weren’t. At least it meant they didn’t keep badgering Jack with questions he didn’t want to answer.
Ianto wasn’t one for demanding answers; he knew Jack would tell him if there was something he needed to know. Everyone deserved to have their privacy respected. There was one question he could ask though, one that mattered far more than what Jack had been doing while he was away.
“Are you okay? You’ve seemed a little down since you got back.”
Jack sighed. “I’m wrong. At least that’s what the Doctor told me. I’m an impossible thing, I shouldn’t exist. What?”
Ianto’s huff of annoyance obviously wasn’t the response Jack had expected.
“Why do you even listen to him? He doesn’t sound very smart.”
“What d’you mean?”
“If you shouldn’t exist, why’d the universe let you be created? Why didn’t it destroy you?”
Jack frowned. “I hadn’t thought about that.”
“The Doctor’s right about one thing though,” Ianto teased. “You are impossible.”
