“Why the hell do I keep letting him talk me into stuff like this?” Ianto muttered to himself. “I need my head examining; I must be missing a few million braincells.”
He hadn’t liked the idea when Jack had come up with it and had told his lover so in no uncertain terms. Words such as ‘over my dead body’ and ‘when Hell freezes over’ had been involved, yet despite his objections, here he was, a tethered goat to catch a monster.
“If you want bait to dangle over your trap, might I suggest a nice, juicy side of beef?” Ianto knew a butcher he could buy such things from at a discount.
Jack had shaken his head. “Wouldn’t work, the bait has to be alive. These creatures detect their prey by movement and body heat. You won’t even have to do much, just move around a bit and look tempting. I know you can do that.”
“Why does it have to be me?”
“Because the girls don’t climb as well as you do, Owen might be needed in case anyone gets hurt, and you’re a better shot if the trap doesn’t work.”
“If I get eaten, I’ll kill you!”
