Ryo often wondered just what it was Dee saw in him. Looking at himself in the mirror, all he saw was an ordinary guy, nothing special. He supposed he wasn’t bad looking; he took care with his appearance, was usually cleanshaven and tidy, he dressed well, and kept in shape, but Dee could have his pick of men and women.
“Despite all the choices available to him, he picked me.” It made no sense to Ryo.
Dee was anything but ordinary, with his olive skin, jet-black hair, and vivid green eyes. In the looks department he outshone Ryo in every respect, or at least that was Ryo’s opinion. Why Dee had even given him a second look was beyond him.
And yet, Dee called him gorgeous, and sexy, among other things, looked at him like he’d won some kind of prize and couldn’t quite believe his luck. Ryo couldn’t doubt that his lover found him physically attractive, not when Dee seemed incapable of keeping his hands to himself when they were alone together, and often when they weren’t, but when Ryo compared himself to other men, especially at the clubs he and Dee frequented, he didn’t measure up.
Maybe he didn’t need to, because if Dee wanted someone who looked like those other guys then surely he’d be with one of them, not with Ryo.
“Maybe it’s true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” he mused. “It’s what Dee sees when he looks at me that counts.”
