“Mmmmm!” A mouth-watering aroma met Dee’s nose as he let himself into the apartment. He sniffed the air appreciatively, calling out to his lover, “Hey, baby, guess who’s home? Is that your fabulous lemon meringue pie I smell bakin’?” Not that he needed to ask.
“Dee! What’re you doing home? You’re not supposed to get off shift for at least another hour!” Ryo had the day off while his partner was working.
“Yeah, I know, but Ted and I managed to track Jason Decker to an ex-girlfriend’s place. The old badger was so happy we’d finally caught up with that drug dealin’ sonofabitch and gotten him off the streets that he said we could leave early. Thought you’d be pleased to see me.”
“I am, it’s just… The pie was supposed to be a surprise but now you’re home before it’s finished.” Ryo sounded disappointed.
Dee pulled his lover close. “Baby, it’s still a surprise, and a really great one at that. Smellin’ it cookin’ will just add to the anticipation. Feels like I’m bein’ rewarded for a job well done; a couple hours’ paid time off, and one of my favourite desserts. Maybe I should catch scumbags more often.”
