A/N: Triple drabble.
Dee had never liked this kind of social event, all the wealthy socialites, businessmen, and stockbrokers hobnobbing with celebrities of various kinds, bragging about how much they owned and how important they were, everyone drinking too much and possibly doing drugs in the restrooms.
He wasn’t there as a guest, of course; he and a number of other detectives from various precincts were working as additional security, mostly because the Mayor and his wife were present, along with commissioner Rose. It meant he could remain on the periphery, alert for trouble, but it didn’t prevent him from being hit on by tipsy starlets and a couple of bored wives whose husbands weren’t paying them enough attention.
Well, he was bored too but that didn’t mean he was going to slip away to get it on with one of the guests. He was already in a relationship anyway. Speaking of which…
He smiled as Ryo reached him.
“Hey, how’s it going?”
“How d’you think?” Ryo leaned against the terrace railing beside his partner. “In the last half hour, two people have mistaken me for a waiter, and a drunk guy with a bad fake tan wanted to know, since I’m a cop, where the best place would be to pick up a couple of hookers.”
“What’d ya tell him?”
“I said if he asked me again I’d have to arrest him for solicitation.”
“Bet that didn’t go down too well.”
“Not sure he even heard me. Last I saw he was passed out under a table. How did we get stuck with this assignment?”
“Just bad luck I guess.” Dee grinned suddenly. “Look on the bright side; couple more hours of this, and then two days off!”
Ryo pulled a face. “Think anyone would notice if I turned the clocks forward?”
