There are advantages to being from another planet, three thousand years in the future. Thanks to advances in genetic manipulation, and interbreeding with other races, Jack’s senses are much sharper than their twenty-first century equivalents. He can see further than regular humans and has better night vision. His hearing is far more acute, and his sense of smell more discerning, not as good as a bloodhound’s, but good enough to be able to distinguish between members of his team by smell alone.
He can detect the scents of their soaps and shampoos, even from a distance, but they each have their own personal aroma beneath the artificial fragrances; their pheromones may not be as pungent as Jack’s own, but he’s still aware of them. Ianto’s smell like vanilla with overtones of something sharper, almost lemony, amid deeper, earthy notes. Jack breathes in his lover’s rich aroma.
“Ianto.”
“How’d you know it was me?”
Jack’s eyes are closed and he’s not looking in his lover’s direction.
“I can smell you.”
“Okay, that’s a bit creepy.” Ianto stopped in front of Jack’s desk. “Hold on; is that how you always win at naked hide and seek?”
Jack smirked. “You’ve found me out.”
