Weevil hunting was all about the thrill of the chase. Maybe it was a genetic memory from prehistoric times when primitive humans hunted animals for food, or maybe not. The idea of eating Weevil was beyond disgusting. Weevils might enjoy the occasional human snack but the reverse didn’t bear thinking about.
Chasing them usually wasn’t about killing them anyway; the aim was either to drive them back into the sewers or occasionally to capture and tag them. Most of the resident population was already tagged but there were sometimes new arrivals or youngsters, and a few that had so far proved elusive.
Now and then there might be one that was sick or injured, needing to be taken to the Hub for treatment. Just because they were aliens didn’t mean they shouldn’t be helped. In time perhaps it would improve relations between the two species.
Racing down an alleyway, with Jack matching him stride for stride, Ianto hurdled a toppled dustbin and kept going, closing the gap between himself and his quarry. It was the most fun he could have with his clothes on!
There’d be time for the other kind of fun when the Weevil had been dealt with.
