FAKE Triple Drabble: Detective

Summary: After solving his first case, Ryo feels he’s made the grade as a detective.

A/N: Triple drabble.
Ryo had assumed he’d be handed something relatively straightforward for his first case as a detective, a mugging maybe, or a simple robbery, just to get his feet wet and show what he could do. Instead he’d been lumbered with a drugs related homicide.
It had been kinda daunting, not at all what he would have called a suitable rookie assignment, and yet… what would solving a simple case have proved? As things stood, he and his new partner had done a pretty good job, solving the murder and bringing down a drug smuggling ring into the bargain; not bad for a couple of days work. As for Ryo, he’d shown his new colleagues he could do the job, and nobody could claim otherwise.
Okay, so he’d managed to lose both his partner and the victim’s ten-year-old son his second day on the job, but he’d gotten both of them back. Dee was slightly damaged, but a broken arm would heal, and the injury hadn’t been Ryo’s fault. Police work was dangerous, injuries happened; that was common knowledge.
More importantly, closing the case so quickly had impressed the Chief. True, they’d needed Bikky’s help, along with the drugs the boy’s father had been skimming, in order to break the case wide open, but Ryo figured that was only fair. Helping to bring down his dad’s murderer had given the boy a degree of closure.
Ryo’s initiation into his new job it had been quite an eye-opener, but it had also given him a badly needed confidence boost. If he could successfully handle investigating such a major crime, then surely he could deal with whatever came his way next. He’d been thrown in at the deep end, and maybe that was for the best. Now he deserved the title of detective.
