I think that they were describing his heart/soul not his hair/fur.

The only thing I ever saw that was more downright ridiculously silly & creepy concerning one of the Black Beasts; was the time one of them appeared on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson & sang "There's a Light (Over at the Frankenstein Place)" in Falsetto.
