A/N: Double drabble.
Working with the serious crimes squad, Dee and Ryo were used to horrific sights; they’d seen dismembered bodies, rotting corpses, rooms splashed with so much blood and gore they looked more like slaughter houses, and they’d watched countless autopsies. They’d had to develop strong stomachs and learn to view crime scenes dispassionately in order to carry out their jobs effectively. That didn’t mean seeing such things was easy, that they were never affected at all, but most of the time they could cope with the ugliness.
They weren’t fearless either, they knew the dangers of their jobs, had faced armed gunmen, knife-wielding maniacs, mad bombers, and terrorists, but instead of giving in to fear they harnessed it, let it heighten their senses and quicken their reflexes rather than cripple them. It was all part of their training.
This was different. It was terrifying, they were completely unprepared, and had no one but each other they could turn to for help. The awful smells, and the ear-splitting wailing, so much louder than any police sirens they’d ever heard… This was a horror unlike any they’d ever faced.
Their first night babysitting their grandson, and they couldn’t get him to stop crying!
