Her mom opening a gallery in Sunnydale is a blessing in disguise for Buffy. Getting the place set up and contacting local artists who might be interested in displaying their work there is taking up a lot of her mom’s time. She often doesn’t get home until late evening, and then she’s too tired to pay too much attention to what her daughter’s up to, so Buffy can slip out on Slayer patrol without her mom being any the wiser.

The front porch roof right outside her bedroom window helps too; Buffy can slip out that way instead going downstairs and sneaking out the door, then get back in the same way. Best to avoid being seen coming in at two in the morning on a school night, with blood on her clothes. It avoids awkward questions, and getting grounded.

But Buffy still sometimes misses having her mom’s undivided attention.
