“I’ve been thinkin’--” Dee started before Ryo cut him off.
“Don’t strain yourself.”
“Everyone’s a comedian. You wanna hear what I have to say or not?”
“Sorry, go ahead.” Ryo didn’t mean to be snippy, especially not to Dee, but he was tired and hungry, and the combination wasn’t doing anything to improve his mood.
“Gee, thanks. Where was I?”
“You were thinking.”
“Right, yeah. Don’t know about you, but I’m beat, so how about we don’t bother with cookin’ a healthy dinner, just this once, and pick up takeout on the way home?” They’d been trying to eat more healthily in recent weeks, not exactly a New Year resolution but an effort to get themselves back to full fitness having both suffered injuries towards the end of the previous year.
“I guess one night of junk food wouldn’t do us any harm, and it would mean not having to wait for dinner to cook. Okay, sure, what’re you thinking; pizza?”
“Nah, too doughy. Never thought I’d hear myself say that. I’ve kinda been havin’ a yen for Chinese.”
“Mm,” Ryo sighed. “I could go for that. Crispy roast duck…” He trailed off, mouth watering.
“King prawns, or something with beef and lots of noodles, I can’t decide.”
“We can make up our minds when we get there.”
Dee looked up at the wall clock. “Only half an hour ‘til the end of shift.”
“Can’t come soon enough for me. After today, we’ve earned a treat.”
“My thoughts exactly.”
