Soon after she arrived in Sunnydale, what felt like forever ago, Buffy had clued her new friend Willow in on an important truth, which also happened to be the philosophy she lived by, namely ‘Life is short’. Why waste it worrying about what might happen when you could seize the moment and actually live? Doing so had almost cost Willow her life, but that had just sort of proved Buffy’s point.
Now Willow was returning the favour with some sage advice of her own, carpe diem, seize the day: different wording, same meaning, more or less, and really what was Buffy waiting for? Why shouldn’t she and Angel take the next step in their relationship? They were ready, and in a few days, once Buffy was seventeen, she’d be of legal age, nothing to stop her… Scary thought, but exciting too, and Angel wasn’t some inexperienced teen… She could trust him to treat her right.
Looking back, Buffy could scarcely believe how everything could have gone so wrong; her world had been ripped apart at the seams with Angel losing his soul, turning evil, tormenting everyone she cared about, and murdering Ms Calendar…
Never had good advice been so bad.
