A/N: Double drabble.
Entering the tourist office from the secret passage, Tosh found Ianto sitting quietly behind the desk. It was getting late; the entrance door was locked and the sign in the window turned to read ‘closed’. Ianto usually returned downstairs once he’d shut up for the night, unless he was in the middle of some paperwork, having taken it up there so he could get on with it without being interrupted every few minutes, but he didn’t appear to be working now, just sitting there staring into space.
“Ianto. Ianto!” After several attempts to get her friend’s attention, Tosh put her hand on his shoulder. The result was quite dramatic; Ianto gave a sort of strangled squeak and leapt to his feet, knocking his chair over in the process, and whirling to face her, eyes wide and startled.
“Tosh!”
“Sorry, you weren’t answering. Are you okay?”
Ianto stared at her, frowning. “What?
Tosh raised her voice. “Are you okay?”
“Fine, I was miles away.” Ianto indicated his ears. “Still a bit deaf; accidentally set off an alien siren in the archives earlier. Jack says our hearing should be back by tomorrow.”
Tosh giggled; she could guess how that accident had happened!
