“C’mon, babe, it’ll be fun!” Dee said, not above bringing out the pleading puppy dog eyes in an effort to get his way. “Everybody needs a little bit of magic in their lives now and then.”

“But it’s not magic, is it? Magic isn’t real; it’s all illusion and sleight of hand. Nobody really gets sawn in half, things don’t disappear and reappear; it’s nothing more than trickery.”

For someone who seemed to be a daydreamer, Ryo was more down to earth than anyone Dee had ever met, only believing what he could prove. It was a bit disappointing, if he was honest.

“So what if it’s not real? Would ya really want to see someone sawn in half, or havin’ a bunch of swords stuck through ‘em? What matters is it’s fun to watch a really skilled magician. Only kids believe it’s all real; everyone else just wants to be entertained, enjoy the illusions, and maybe feel that sense of wonder we lost as we grew up. Where’s the harm in that? Can’t you just take a break from bein’ so serious all the time? The kids’ll love it.”

Ryo sighed. “Fine, we’ll go to the magic show.”

“Woohoo!”
