Coat didn’t understand Christmas, but then again, no one had ever tried to explain the holiday season to it. On the other sleeve, it supposed understanding wasn’t really necessary for enjoyment. It liked the way the world sparkled around it, full of colourful lights and decorations. It enjoyed the cheerful Christmas music, and the crowds of people bustling about, laden with shopping bags, and gifts wrapped in bright paper.
Jack seemed to like Christmas too; he strode through the crowds, smiling, and humming snatches of songs. He was as weighed down with bags as the people they passed, but there was a spring in his step. He held a shop door open for an elderly lady.
“There you go, lovely!”
A blush came to her cheeks as she thanked him and went on her way.
When they arrived back at the Hub though, Coat was surprised to note that Ianto didn’t appear to be infected with the Christmas spirit. He looked tired and stressed, and not at all in a good mood.
“What’s up with you?” Jack asked him. “Christmas is only a few days away!”
“I know, and I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping yet,” Ianto said wearily.
