That is one of the things I like about Dee. He can be pushy and vain, but he goes all out for kids especially hard luck kids. It really softens his character.

He has a core of pure marshmallow, lol! He'll insist he doesn't like kids, but he'll be there for them in an instant, protecting or providing. His tough guy act is good, but it can't withstand kids.

He's learned to protect himself because he had to, but he also remembers where he came from and what it was like to live that way.

Yes, I think that's a very good analysis. Growing up the way he did, Mother gave him the best childhood she could but I bet he got picked on until he could defend himself. He'll do all he can for the kids at the orphanage, and any others that need it.
