“Dee! Stop that!” Ryo slapped his partner’s wandering hand away yet again. If they’d been home alone, perhaps snuggled up on the sofa watching TV after a good dinner, he might not have minded, but they weren’t. It was almost midnight and they were sitting in an unheated car in the dark, on a stakeout, freezing their asses off. They were supposed to be keeping an eye on the building across the street.
Ryo was handling the camera, snapping off photos of people coming and going. Dee, obviously bored, was more intent on handling Ryo, preferably intimately. It was distracting, and Dee’s gloved hands were cold; if he kept it up all of Ryo’s photos were going to come out blurry and unusable.
“You’re cold. I could warm ya up if you’d let me.”
“We’re working! One of us is anyway.”
“I’m workin’ too, I’m just multi-taskin’.” Dee’s hand wandered again.
“Cut it out! I can’t keep the camera steady when you do that!”
“Ha! So you do like what I’m doin’!” Dee sounded triumphant.
“Not right now I don’t! Honestly, sometimes I wonder why I put up with you!”
“Because you love me?”
Ryo sighed, defeated. “That’s probably it.”
