A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.
Ryo floundered for the alarm clock, desperate to halt its strident ringing, and collapsed back onto the bed, still clutching the infuriating instrument of torture in his hand. He squinted blearily at the clock face in the dim light coming through the window, trying to make out the time: 7 am. He groaned.
“How can it be morning already? Didn’t we just go to bed?”
“It was already mornin’ when we got in. If the old badger had a heart he would’a given us the rest of the day off. We went above and beyond the call of duty.” Dee dragged a weary hand through his hair, trying to shove it out of his eyes; he would’ve liked to just pull the pillow over his head and go back to sleep, but it wouldn’t have been fair to Ryo. His partner wasn’t the kind to skive off work just because he hadn’t gotten enough sleep.
“Everyone was needed last night, Dee. It was a major incident.”
“Yeah, I know.”
Bomb threats had to be taken seriously, even if this one had turned out to be a hoax. They couldn’t afford to let down their guard; the next one might be the real deal.
Ryo swung his legs off the bed and reached for his robe. “I’ll get the coffee on while you shower.” With any luck the combination of caffeine and five minutes under the shower spray would wake them up enough to function.
“Mornings should be banned,” Dee muttered.
